In conversation with Thijs de Vries, passionate support employee at De Computerman Twente

In this blog, read more about Thijs de Vries, a valued support employee at De Computerman Twente since early 2022. In an interview conducted by owner Erik Lozeman, Thijs talks about his career, what makes him happy and how he ended up at De Computerman Twente. Read on to find out how Thijs went from an internship to a fun job at De Computerman Twente!

Who are you and what is your position at De Computerman Twente?

My name is Thijs de Vries and I am currently 20 years old. I have a passion for computers and technology, which is why I work as a support assistant at De Computerman Twente. In my position, I am responsible for providing technical support to customers who have problems or questions with their computers. I enjoy helping people and solving problems, and derive great satisfaction from doing so. I am always looking for ways to further develop my knowledge and skills so that I can serve my clients even better.

How do you join The Computerman Twente?

In 2019, I started an ICT course at the
ROC van Twente in Hengelo
. During my studies, I came in contact with Mark Lozeman, who is a teacher at the ROC. Mark is the brother of Erik Lozeman, the owner of De Computerman Twente. I was looking for an internship and Mark put me in touch with Erik. After my job interview with Erik, I was hired as an intern at De Computerman Twente. Thanks to my hard work and dedication during my internship, I was able to complete it with an excellent grade and was given the opportunity to continue working at De Computerman Twente as an employee.

What do you like best about working at De Computerman Twente?

Thijs: “The very best part of my work at De Computerman Twente is the customer contact. I love helping people with their technical problems and solving their problems. Each client has their own unique problem and it’s great to work with them to find a solution. I’ve been fortunate to meet so many different types of people since working at De Computerman Twente. Some are technically savvy, others have little or no experience with computers, but for me the most important thing is to be able to help them. Working with clients greatly improved my problem-solving skills.

The daily variety of work is also something I really enjoy. No two days are the same and there is always something new to learn. I love being challenged and solving new problems. Sometimes the solutions are simple, sometimes they require more thought and research. But every time I solve a problem, I feel fulfilled and proud of my work.”

When do you go home feeling happy?

When I can help many customers with their computer problems during the day, it gives me a strong sense of accomplishment and commitment. This contributes to the positive corporate culture at De Computerman Twente. I am also happy when we win interesting, challenging or large assignments. Working with my colleagues to complete assignments makes me feel good. For example, when we have completely cleaned up the repair room on Saturday, I go home feeling happy. The feeling I have when I have had a productive and fulfilling day is priceless.
